Q. So what is Elastic Park?
A. Elastic Park is a one-of-a-kind exhibition (although we do intend to “tour” it to museums all over the country), featuring a unique blend of art, science and community-building. The multi-thousand-square-foot, interactive exhibit was inspired by Michael Crichton’s bestselling novel, Jurassic Park. Thousands upon thousands of balloons are the medium used to create this extraordinAIRy exhibit.
Q. How do you blow up all of those balloons?
A. We have lots and lots of volunteers…and air compressors! The artists themselves will often use hand pumps and some still inflate balloons by mouth, mostly when doing detail work.
Q. How long does it take to build the exhibit?
A. The actual construction of Elastic Park takes about five days. However, the planning, coordination, writing and other creative development required to produce this event has already taken several years of work. Several more months of planning are needed to fit the exhibition into each venue that will host it.
Q. How long do the balloons/does Elastic Park last?
A. The inflated latex balloons can last for several weeks with care and daily maintenance. The appearance of the gigantic display changes daily, due to the nature of balloons. If we do only minimal maintenance, we can expect it to look good for about seven days.
Q. Is Elastic Park appropriate for young children?
A. Elastic Park is a family-friendly exhibit.
Q. Is Elastic Park handicap accessible?
A. Our entire crew is dedicated to making all of our exhibits accessible to everyone that wants to come. In fact, over the years, several of our crew members have helped build and to lead tours from wheelchairs. If you have special accessibility needs, we will do our best to accommodate you. If you are able, please let us know ahead of time that you are coming so that we can make any special arrangements that are needed.
